Team 9558: The Steel Vipers is composed of three sub-teams: Mechanical, Programming, and Marketing. Each sub-team completes work for the team in their area of expertise, and in doing so divides the categories of work up evenly among team members.
The Mechanical Sub-team handles all the robot hardware and is the most hands-on with the robot. They are responsible for constructing all the parts used on the robot and assembling them. The sub-team also handles all the wiring of the electronics on the robot and sets up any pneumatic systems. In addition to the first-time assembly of the robot, the mechanical sub-team also works on repairing things that are broken. More experienced members of the sub-team will work with CAD in finalizing the design of the robot.
The Programming Sub-team is the sub-team that handles all the robot software and also gets to be fairly hands-on with the robot. The sub-team is responsible for coding all the functionality of the robot. Ultimately, the code will come down to two parts; making easy-to-use controls for the drive team and writing effective autonomous code for the first 15 seconds of the match.
The programs linked below are some of the main programs used by programing. Github is used to sync the code between devices, WIPlib is what the actual code is done on, and finally Team 6329's Advantagekit to track the field and graph the robots actions.
The marketing sub team is composed of two halves: Business and Media. The business side spends its time maintaining the finances, partnerships, awards, outreach, and other external relations with the team. The media side works on social media posts, videos, design, team bonding, and internal relations of the team.
Our robotics team is like a business, and as businesses work; they require funding, advertisement, and management. That is the role of the marketing sub team.
Team 9558: The Steel Vipers is run by a student leadership system, composed of the team captains and sub-team leads.
The team is led by a pair of 2 captains, who serve as the “face of the team”. These captains are responsible for making sure the team is successful. They work closely with the adult mentors in setting the direction of the team. The captains assist with various administrative duties, including tracking attendance, making sure paperwork is being turned in, and communicating upcoming meetings and events with the team members and their families.
Each of the sub-teams has two sub-team leads, each with a specific role. The Mechanical and Programming both have a “Technical Lead” and “Project Manager” as their sub-team leads, while marketing has two project managers – one for Business and one for Media. The Technical Leads are responsible for ensuring members of their sub-team learn and know how to complete work in their sub-team expertise. The Project Managers are responsible for ensuring that members of their sub-team have something to do and that everything that needs to be accomplished is being done in an acceptable timeframe.
